While my J-Series gently weeps

As many of you may by now know, during the course of 2016 we built something a little different in the form of a Datsun J-Series SSS aka Datsun Violet, Datsun A10.  Sadly the powers that be cocked up on a whole range of administrative and technical issues to the extent that the move to a Pre-80 cut-off date as was intended could not be affected and which ultimately resulted in being the only region in South Africa to lag behind the rest of the historic world.  (We have subsequently been offered the opportunity to compete on occasions on an invitation basis but have yet to take up on the offer.)

In the meanwhile, we have moved on with the intention of building yet another Datsun SSS but of the P510 variation.   This time around it will be of such an era that it can’t be excluded on any technicality, mishap or blatant ignorance of the regulations by officialdom.  Unfortunately, due to the timing, part requirements, a lack of funds (which was used to build the J-Series SSS) this build will take quite a while and at best will only be ready towards the 2nd half if not the 3rd quarter of the 2019.  Worst case scenario, we’ll have it ready for the 2020 season but we live in hope.
The P510 Datsun SSS has almost reached iconic status in some parts of the world and is slowly becoming a rather rare collector’s item.  Sadly, in many parts around the world including locally, most have been badly looked after and nature has sure taken its fair toll as well.  We were lucky to have sourced a pretty decent body as a rolling chassis which amazingly has little signs of bad rust and which can relatively easily be repaired.
The body was recently sent away to have the roll cage fitted and the car was collected only today.  At least now the bodywork can be prepared and primed before commencing with the rest of the build.   This time around we will again do something a little different in body appearance while still maintaining the near standard look yet adding some aggression in its overall finish.

Really looking forward to this build as the P510 has always had a special place in our heart for racing.
